According to a recent article on PCGamer, Notch has revealed the purpose for that mysterious bar in one of the pictures he posted last week while discussing some level height-increases. The bar I’m talking about will serve as an Experience bar, which will allow your character to level up in the game. Although I can’t figure out what the purpose of the increased levels will be, but I’m sure Notch will reveal all the answers soon.
Apparently if you happen to die during game-play, the XP bar will go to zero. This plays along with what Notch likes to call a “roguelike” gameplay, where you lose all your inventory already. At the moment the bar is still not entirely filled with purpose, but Notch mentioned “We’re trying to figure out something that is fun…”
Again, I welcome any ideas you’d like to see in the game and opinions on the new XP leveling system that is coming in the 1.8 Minecraft Update.

(TEASER) Minecraft 1.8 Updates
While browsing Jeb_‘s twitter account I noticed that he had posted a new scree-shot that featured chicken being cooked!
There also seems to be a bar under the heart/life monitor that I’ve never seen before, which could be for armor because to the right of the hears you can see some kind of item. Looks to be some kind of ammo line or a “hunger bar” (thanks MasterMind). All speculation as of right now, but it’s cool to see these updates surfacing right now.
